In breaking news at the top of the hour, the Anaheim Ducks have extended Troy Terry on a 7-year deal with an AAV of 7 million per year. This is a huge signing for the Ducks and for Terry, as over the last two seasons Terry has posted star-level production putting up 0.89 and 0.82 points per game and averaging a GAR of 15. Referencing this against evolving hockey’s standing points above replacement (SPAR) metric, Terry’s performance the last two seasons slots his actual value at closer to 11.75 million per year, per their cost evaluation metrics. In spite of being a below average defensive player, Anaheim is getting a tremendous value in a first line winger in today’s NHL who will only continue to develop around their young core of Zegras, McTavish, Carlsson, and Lundestrom.
