Damien’s Deliberations: Yamamoto in the Emerald City

Kailer Yamamoto to the Seattle Kraken is a signing this off season that will pay dividends, as he signed with them on a one-year 1.5 million dollar deal. Yamamoto displayed his offensive ability shooting 25% while posting .96 points per game and an 8.1 GAR in the 2019-2020 season.  He showcased his two way game that same year posting a +3% relative corsi along with a 3.6% fenwick relative. Last year was a bit of a regression offensively where Yamamoto posted only .43 PPG, the 2nd lowest in the last 4 seasons. Yamamoto’s defensive game was an asset where he posted a 2.1 defensive GAR on an Oilers team that had three 100 point players, but was heavily criticized for a lack of a 200’ game.

Yamamoto is looking to have a bounce back season in Seattle where he showcases his offensive game. A fresh start will help Yamamoto, as the last few seasons he was up and down in the lineup and never had a consistent role. In Seattle they have four solid two way lines with a deep blue line. I’m looking forward to seeing the chemistry amongst their new additions and seeing what Yamamoto’s role will be, he adds tremendous value with his offensive and defensive abilities and his hockey career is still young, at the age of 24.
