 It’s Gabel and Muller time!

Wednesday night (1/17) marked the first time Boston and Toronto would play each other in the PWHL. Toronto, hungry for a win after three consecutive losses, would stick with netminder Kristen Campbell and Emma Soderberg would get her first start in Boston. Hannah Miller would score the first goal of the game for Toronto, 9 minutes into the game off assists from Rebecca Leslie and Jocelyn Larocque. Boston would tie the game 12 minutes and 38 seconds into the second period off a goal by Loren Gabel and the assist by Alina Muller. Boston would strike again 6 minutes later and go up 2-1 on a goal scored by Megan Keller, set up by Alina Muller and Loren Gabel. Toronto would claw their way back into the game off of another Hannah Miller goal 7 minutes and 45 seconds into the third period. With less than 2 minutes in the third period, the power duo of Gabel and Muller combined for another goal with the secondary assist from Emily Brown to seal the game. Emma Soderberg put together a strong performance stopping 30 of 32 shots in her first career win in the PWHL.

Boston were opportunists in this victory, scoring three goals on 22 shots and their penalty kill did a great job stopping all five Toronto power plays. Boston is another team in this league that has gotten great performances from their goalie tandem in Aerin Frankel and Emma Soderberg. With this win, they are currently in third place and still have 21 games remaining. This is another difficult loss for Toronto; they outshot Boston 32 to 22 and failed to score on their five power plays. Hannah Miller was a positive for Toronto scoring both goals. Toronto is 0 for 7 on the power play in their last three games. This isn’t the start of the season that they imagined. They’re currently in last place in the standings and they have a -10 goal differential (the next worst is New York with 0). Boston will be playing New York on Saturday and Toronto will be preparing for a tough Montreal team.
