Prospects to Know: Who is… Logan Hawery?

In a pivot from my usual activity pertaining to prospect profiles as of late, I return with a profile on a 2008-born prospect who is eligible for the 2026 NHL Entry Draft. As of right now, he is not a sought after prospect for his class, but I think that his play and the esteem of the club that he plays for will change that. I have not watched him play nearly as many full games as I would like to yet. However, every time I have seen him, I have been very impressed by his abilities, his physical attributes, and how his game between his ears appears to this point. Without further ado, let us address the driving forces of this forward’s success.

Logan Hawery was born on March 15th, 2008 in Barrie, Ontario. As one would anticipate, the Barrie Jr. Colts had a considerable impact on his cultivation as a hockey player. In the 2021–22 season, Hawery suited up for the Barrie Colts U15 AAA, and recorded 14 goals and 13 assists in 22 games played in the ETAHL. He additionally tallied 5 goals and 2 assists in 6 postseason games. He played at the U16 level the following season and registered 17 goals and 23 assists in 22 games played during the regular season, then scored 1 goal and added 2 assists in four playoff games. Last season, he was the U16 AAA captain and had a strong campaign in the OMHA, with 27 goals and 28 assists in 31 regular season games. However, he really came alive in the playoffs, with 18 goals and 11 assists in 10 games played, winning the championship and proceeding to the OHL Cup. His cumulative performance was sufficient for him to be taken by the perpetual juggernaut London Knights in the first round of the 2024 OHL Priority Selection (20th overall). On August 1st, he was signed to his OHL Scholarship and Development Agreement.

This season, Hawery spent some time in the GOJHL with the St. Thomas Stars, recording 9 goals and 7 assists in 13 games played. However, he has had plenty of looks with London, as well, and is with them full-time now that the Stars’ season has concluded. Hawery has made a pretty good impression in his rookie OHL season. For the week ending Friday, December 20th, he was named rookie of the week for putting up two goals and one assist in two games. More recently, he has been playing well in the depth part of their forward group, recording 1 goal and 1 assist in a home game against the Guelph Storm (the matchup which honored the dominant 2004–05 London Knights team, which I recapped here) and scoring a slick goal off of a turnover in today’s 8-5 defeat against the Windsor Spitfires on the road. He seems to be settling in well in the CHL, with 9 goals and 3 assists in 31 games played so far.

While Hawery may not have eye-popping stats in the CHL just yet, you can see he is piecing a lot of great tools together. I am consistently impressed by his speed/acceleration, his motor, his puck skill, and his work rate. He claims to derive great inspiration from Logan Stankoven and I can definitely see the resemblance. Beyond just these assets, though, I think his shooting mechanics are pretty remarkable for someone his age and I imagine his finishing will really take a big step in his DY. Additionally, there’s a maturity to his game in the sense of timing and making reads. I think that Hawery really impresses me, possibly the most, in how good he is at identifying the best lanes and spaces to attack while carrying the puck. This also applies when he is away from it, be it when breaking up opposing passes or pouncing on a rebound. He is not any sort of ranked prospect for 2026 currently. However, given what drives his game and how those facets are constantly improving, I imagine he will be by the time NHL Central Scouting’s midterm rankings come out next year. He plays for a very good CHL team, but he is not being put in the backpack. It is his own growth that it driving his success and I think that, combined with the repute and esteem of the program he plays for, will have him noticed and his name called sometime during 2026’s draft weekend.
